What's the difference between a bugle and a trumpet?
A bugle has no valves — it can only play the notes in its natural harmonic series, which is why bugle calls all sound similar in shape. A trumpet has valves that let it play a full chromatic scale. Many bugling students move on to trumpet once they're comfortable.
Which bugle should I buy for the Bugling Merit Badge?
A standard G/F regulation bugle, in the Rexcraft style, is the traditional and most affordable choice. See our Bugles for Sale page for current options.
Do you still sell Kanstul bugles?
No. Kanstul has gone out of business and we no longer carry their instruments. We do sometimes have new and demo trumpets in stock — contact us to ask what's available.
Can you repair an old bugle I inherited?
Yes, and we'd recommend bringing it to us before you attempt to clean or polish it yourself. See our repair page for details on what to do (and not do) with an old horn.
Do you offer custom-made bugles?
Yes, custom bugles are available on request. Contact us with what you have in mind.
Can you help me find a bugler for a memorial service?
We can try to help connect you with a bugler in your area for a funeral or ceremony. Reach out with the date and location and we'll do what we can.
